Hi, I just found out by comparing the behaviour of my dnn 4.7.0 site vs. a 4.9.0 site that all links I add with FCK use LinkClick.
In 4.7.0 this was not the case.
So this is somewhere between version 1.0.9.42699 and 2.0.2.1.

I agree in most cases LinkClick works just fine, but in some cases definitely NOT.
I've got some customers complaining already...
So perhaps could you make inserting LinkClick optional.

And it would also be nice if there was an option to force a full path for images and files from code...
I know there is an option right now for a full image path, but when you're building a module, you might like to override it, and force the use of a full path.
This might be usefull if the content will be shown on multiple portals, or in webservices or whatever.

Anything ever come from this? I'm having the same issue as well.. as LinkClick.aspx is not SEO friendly we have tried to stay away from it in the past however it now doesn't seem that is an option.

Thanks

Paul

Agreed!

I was trying to avoid using LinkClick by putting the actual url of the page needed instead of using the Browse Server method.  The only problem is testing in an environment that is a different url than the live site (of course!) webtest.(sitename).com as opposed to www.(sitename).com

I would have the choice of setting all of the links to the correct live url, but then having none of them work in the test environment.  I too have read SEO and linkclick.aspx do not play happily together. . .

LinkClick does have a number of advantages, you cannot get without:

  • Local files and pages within the portal are accessed by ID instead of relative position, this allows to move the target around in your site without links to it being broken
  • LinkClick can check access security for the target and provide appropriate feedback
  • LinkClick allows to track and/or log each click on a link

Regarding SEO:

  • Links to internal pages shouldn't be a problem: if you submitted the sitemap, all public pages will be indexed anyhow
  • If you want your public files to be indexed, I suggest to add a page with an appropriate file listing module, or include the directory in robots.txt and provide public browse access
  • External links shall not need LinkClick, except you need to track or Log it - but this affects ranking of the target site, not SEO of your site.
