I recently upgraded to 4.9.1.  I can no longer access Site or Host Settings.  My Web.config references the following line in the assemblies section:

<add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" />

 If I comment out this line or reference version=1.0.61025.0 of the System.Web.Extensions it works. What could be causing this problem? I created  a custom module that also uses LINQ to SQL and an AJAX UpdatePanel but in both instances of the System.Web.Extensions it says the UpdatePanel is ambiguous. Are there any DLLs that may be causing this problem? I have another 4.8.4 site that I upgraded to 4.9.1 and the module works correctly. The web.config files are almost identical too.

Do I dare copy the DLLs from the working site to the one that's not working?

Any help would be appreciated.

Jon

Hi Jon,

We have seen similar oddball issues with our customers after they have updated their DNN from early pre 4.6.x versions. The problem has something to do with a name space collision between new and old assemblies. The DNN installations that were upgraded from version prior to 4.6.x retained some of these assemblies and as result can cause various problems.

Without seeing the complete exception dump I cannot tell you which DLL in the /bin it may need to be removed or updated. If you can please copy the exception directly from your EventsLog table and paste it here.
