After several years of development, version 4.0 of the Articles module for DotNetNuke is now available!

This is by far our best version yet and includes many new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes. Due to our desire to continue to make significant improvements to the module, we have decided to make this a commercial module rather than continue to give it away for free. The module is now available for $40 and includes the full source code.

New Features and Improvements

  • Templates - Many improvements have been made to the templates architecture since version 3.2.6.
    • You can now use templates for the Details page
    • Templates can be specific to a portal rather than available to all portals.
    • You can now use the file manager to upload new portal specific templates.
    • New templates have been added and more are coming.
  • Files for the Detail Type: You can now select files for the Article Detail Type and upload the file directly from the Edit screen. This makes it easy to link to a .doc, a PDF, an image, or any other type of file from the Article list.
  • Detail Display options: In version 3.2.6, the Article details were always displayed on a page itself using the Admin skin. With 4.0, you can now display the Article Details in place of the Article List (so the skin and other modules on the page are still displayed) or on a completely separate page of your choosing.
  • Improved SEO- The article Title is now added to the Page title for improved listings on Search Engine results.
  • Categories: We've made improvements to the supporting Categories module and it's integration with Articles.
    • Categories now supports Parent/Child Categories, Category Icons, and Abbreviations
    • Category Names and Icons are now clickable so that users can filter the article list by clicking on the Category to see only Articles from that category.
    • Installation of the Categories module is now optional as not everyone needs the added capabilities provided by categories.
  • Added Captcha support for anonymous comments to prevent spamming by bots.
  • Improvements to DNN search and RSS integration
  • RSS Feed: The module now generates it own RSS feed and links it to the page in the page metadata for improved discovery by browsers and other RSS readers.
  • New sorting options: Title and Expire Date
  • Send To A Friend: An option is now included to Enable "Send To A Friend" functionality from the Article Details page.
  • Improved Administration:
    • It's now easy for Admins to show/hide Expired articles through a new item in the Action menu.
    • Admins can now type in any number for the number of Articles to display per page.
    • Disable Add New: You can now disable the Add New Article functionality for a module when Display Site Wide Articles is checked. This is useful for preventing users from adding articles to a module that is just supposed to display Articles from other modules like a Featured Articles module on the home page.
  • Simplified Development: Converted both Articles and Categories to the WSP development format where no separate DLL is required. All code is included in the DesktopModules/Articles and App_Code/Articles folders and can be changed without requiring a recompile.
  • Fixed a major issue with Caching
  • Improvements to the way CSS Styling is handled in the provided templates.
  • The online help link will now go to the new Help forum
  • Improvements to the Edit Page
  • Search results will not include articles the user doesn't have rights to see
  • Improvements to the website to improve support and communication
  • Installation improvements
  • Lots of Bug Fixes and smaller improvements.
