Is the a page threshold where performance problems seem to arise?  I currently have one portal with approximately 2000 pages, and simply loading the main page can take upwards of 15-30 seconds at times.  Is there anything that can be done to improve performance?

Thanks.

Derek

Derek,

There are a number of things that you can do, I would start by looking at the host settings and ensure that you have heavy caching and a few other options available.  Have a look at my blog http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs.aspx for a bit more information on what I do to keep my sites running fast.

Also, you might want to look into a keepalive service if you are seeing longer initial load times, as those are related to the worker process shutting down due to inactivity.  There are a number of services our there that do it, including my new service which has had a "soft" launch in the last week.

Mitch,

I have taken a look at your blog, and the majority (all except one) of the settings you recommended have already been applied.  The initial load time is not the only performance issue that is occuring, load times between pages also seems to be a major issue.  It appears that the load times are independent of what type or number of modules on a particular page.  I have tested this where a single text/html module is on a page, multiple types of modules on a page, and where only the page itself exists, every situation appears to be constant, all loading extremely slow.

Any help is appreciated.

Derek

Derek,

At this poin then we would need to start looking at the database, server, and overall load/usage of the site to discuss other options.

I can't always monitor these forums easily, feel free to drop me an email and we can discuss a few options/ideas.  msellers@iowacomputergurus.com
