Hi,  I just installed DNN 4.9.0 successfully on a website hosted by godaddy.com.  I went through the DNN installation successfully, logged in twice over a short period as administrator to set two preferences about user security and then logged out.

However, I just went back to the site to log in again as admin - and the login icon is inoperable!  I cannot login.  When I click on that icon (upper right on the home page), the login username and password window doesn't popup!  What can I do?  Do I have to delete the dotnetnuke.config file from the directory (using filemanager for the site at godaddy.com)?  Help!  And how can I prevent this from happening again (the login icon not functioning)?

Thanks for any help.  This happened four days ago, and let to my having to uninstall and re-install.  Grrrr...

You probably changed the Login Page setting on the admin/site settings page to a page that doesn't have a Login module on it.

If that is the case you need to get into your database, in the Portals table and change the LoginTabID value to null, instead of the number it is currently set to.

I did go to the database and see what the value was.  It was 36, same as the value for the home page.  I changed the LoginTabID value to null, and I could log in!  Success!  I was elated.  However, after I logged out for a while and later tried to log in again for more website work, I couldn't log in AGAIN!!!!  Grrrrr... so I checked the value in the database again.  Now it still said null.  No matter what I did after that, I couldn't log in.  I am giving DNN one more change, and when I have it uninstalled and re-installed once more (by godaddy.com) after several rounds of login failures, uninstall and reinstall, I will login and immediately add a login page with the login module available to all users!  I apparently cannot count on the default home page login module to continue functioning after the initial login. This must be a design fault of DNN 4.9 (or that using DNN the first time takes more skills than a user like me.

The homepage doesn't have a login module on it, it has a login link in the skin. If you setup a login page in the admin settings page then you need to put a login module on whatever page it is that you choose, otherwise you'll continue to run into the problem.

If the database value was still NULL, then I would start to look at the host causing problems, and not necessarily DNN, unless maybe you're running two webservers and one was out of sync.
