hey all.

I have d/l dnn in the last couple of days to see what it was like.

I have read that in order to change the look of the admin you need to create skins in a special way, which I will look into at some point soon on how to do. My question though is, do you need to create skins in teh exact same way for the front end of your website as well? The CMS's I normally work with, you can basicaly just use any HTML/ASPX/CSS page combo's, but I get the impression I cant work the same as what I am used too lol..

take a look at the skinning documentation @ http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Support/Documentation/DownloadableFiles/tabid/478/Default.aspx , it'll show you how to create a skin. All you need to do is either add tokens (such as [LOGIN], [LOGO], [NAV], which get replaced by login links, the site logo and the menu system ), or else create ascx files and add the same elements as user controls (ascx's)

If you open up your dotnetnuke folder and go to Website\Portals\_default\Skins\MinimalExtropy , you'll see the default skin, if you examine the htm and ascx files you'll get a good idea how it works (the skin parser in dotnetnuke just converts the htm files to ascx, replacing the tokens with control references)
