Yes that sounds like an issue I've heard before... in DNN 5.0.1 I am told that when you click the update button you will be able to see an error message asking you to update the invalid field (i.e. host email address)... this is causing some confusing version DNN 5.0.0 as this message is hidden at the top of the page I believe.

Try restarting the application by clicking "Restart Application" next to the "Update" button on the settings page after you've made your changes. For some or maybe all of the settings on that page, a restart of DNN is required when a change is made.
