HI

I just released a dnn version of http://www.960.gs with a few modifications for better dnn support

This first version is just a framework to make columns and how to integrate into dnn, this is not a full skin yet because of the navmenu issues that will be resolved in dnn5.1. The downloaded version just shows a basic 3 column skin and a menu placeholder ( For people who have the Snapsismenu a supporting skin will be available soon  ). There is also a container setup in place and cross browser styling to make sure that the margin between moduels in the same 10px on all major browsers.

You can get it from  http://www.dnngrid960.com/

Please let me know how it works out for you and how you use it.

Great work Armand. I will be having a play with this later on in the week.

It would be nice if DNN were to adopt a default reset & grid framework as it would make skining DNN so much easier.

If anyone is not sure what 960 is then I suggest watching this video - http://net.tutsplus.com/videos/screencasts/a-detailed-look-at-the-960-css-framework/.

Just one question (even though I personally like 960), why did you choose 960 instead of blueprint or yui?

I will also add that I really think DNN should have an unordered list menu packaged with DNN by default. This would bring DNN in line with just about every other website in the world!..

Hi

Well the reason for that is more a question of like and not like. I have started out with yui because I was using the scripts for a project as well but making more complex splitted design proved a challenge to say the least. Especially for the earlier non valid dnn days that did require core changes ( i have been implementing it in 3 and up )

After that I made one myself based on pretty much the same inspiration and code of the 960 framework. So I never even looked at blueprint. Then some site I liked and followed released grid960 and It has soem better cleaner style as what i had so I switched over. I only needed minor modifications to excisting code to support his.

More complex splitted layouts where also very easy to make ( so 2 columns of 8 then the right column splitted in 4 and 4 and below that a splitted column of 3 and 5 and then below that again a column of 8 . Altho this did require a ie. css for ie issues because of double margin bugs when having modules with exact bottom margins .

I will have a document explaining that setup and how to apply a special container to the bottom one in the larges pane to make up for this.

Have you seen this:

"IE7 is a JavaScript library to make Microsoft Internet Explorer behave like a standards-compliant browser. It fixes many HTML and CSS issues and makes transparent PNG work correctly under IE5 and IE6."
