check out the Announcements module. you might need to install it from the list of available modules at the bottom of Host :: Module Definitions page.

I am using News feeds (RSS) version 4.0.1 and that does not work, I have enabled syndicate on Forums and Event module and when I click on the Syndicate button to get URL for RSS it simply throw an error "an Unhandled exception thrown" .

Where as after updating xsl file with the code given at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/postid/31217/Default.aspx it doesn't shows an error on Announcement part but it doesn't shows anything!!!

Please advise!

 Hemantgiri,

please note that the newsfeed module is intended to be used to consume and aggregate newsfeeds from other sources, not to publish your own news.

If you are running DNN 5.0.0 you should upgrade to 5.0.1 which has a couple of issues ironed out (though still not suggested for production use).

Hi C Smith

Just noticed this thread,  (Don't mean to hyjack a thread) We're researching a circumstance and debugging a client's portal.   We have installed Ventrian's New Article module 00.07.17 and begun to optimize the site.  Part of that process is to change the module's cache setting.  Unfortunately, whenever we change the value(zero seconds is the default).  The next time a visitor requests a page which contains an instance of this Module.  The page does not resolve and the w3wp process runs up in memory consuming all available memory.  We 're running DNN 4.9.1 on W2K3 R2 x64 with lots of memory<prior to this event>    I know a quick workaround is something like,  If it hurts when we laugh, then don't laugh.  We are interested in any experience you may have with this module's settings.  Any thing you can share is appreciated.

Cheers,

I'll second the Ventrian News Article modules. Outstanding module with great flexibility. It is avaiable with source and Scott uses a subscription base to sell his modules, it's an outstanding value at $49.95 per year.

We optimize as well, but have never changed the News Articles set cache from '0'. Rather we set the site settings under Host > Host Settings > Performance Settings for Heavy Caching.

I'm not completely sure what's taking place in your instance, but I'm certain that a post to the Ventrian News Article forums would be the place to seek answers.
