I've been using the Blog module of DNN since installing DNN (ver 4) and overall I've been quite happy with it.  Thank you.  However I have two major beefs with the blog entry process I HOPE you either have fixed or will be able to fix.

First, when I'm entering a new blog entry, there have been several times I've submitted my entry only to find out my session's timed out!!!!!!!!!  And I've lost my entire thing!  If I've been typing for 20m, I have a lot of typing there to lose!  I've lost a few blogs that way!

Secondly, I'm lucky enough to have one of those ergonomic keyboards with special function keys (Microsoft 4000 keyboard) and I have one JUUUUUST for my browser.  Unfortunately for me, when I hit it (accidently now :<), it will take the CURRENT window I'm currently editing an indepth blog entry and load up my home page for my search entry so I can go get some reference material for a blog entry I NO LONGER HAVE ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Can't you have some JS that stops and warns the user they are leaving the page and ask them if they REALLY want to do that?  I have lost about two/three a month this way!  Yes, I could learn, but then again, so could the blog module be doing things smarter/better.

Thank you.

I also use the web interface to enter blog entries.

Since I also have a problem getting an entry done in the limited session period, I would suggest that you do one of two things.  First, you can open a new tab and go to your site.  If you're still logged in, no worries.  Just go back to the blog tab, and submit your entry.  The other option is to check the "Remember Me" checkbox when you login to your site.  If you choose this option, I would suggest making these changes in your web.config though.

I perfer the latter option.

The other option might be a good thing to have.  I am undecided, for the following reasons.  First, your situation sounds like something that can be avoided, but I have also done this.  I understand the frustration.  However, I have encountered a few times where the page will magically refresh on its own.  As far as I can tell, I had done nothing to cause that to happen.  It happened to me in IE, FF, and Chrome.  Unfortunately, I cannot say with 100% confidence that it wasn't something I caused.  That being said, there's no reason to prevent you from suggesting this as a feature request in Gemini.

Hi PHenry,

in addition to Will's suggestion, I suggest you to take a look at using Windows Live Writer to enter your blog entries. It is a free tool that enables you to write your posts offline and go live whenever you are finished.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Hey Dario... That is a good workaround, but it doesn't solve the initial problem.  Do you guys have any road map to address usability issues like this?

This appears to be an issue with your configuration, check web.config for timeout settings etc.
Also consider upgrading to the latest DNN version which should have the latest FCKEditor.

If I'm doing blogs I always prepare offline first... what happens if your internet connection goes down for instance? I've yet to tackle live writer but I'm sure that could be a good solution too! I suggest you adapt your technique.

If there is any usability issues with the blog forms themselves, I suggest you log them at support.dotnetnuke.com... state your exact problem and exactly what you want changed (giving reasons).

Thanks.
