Is it okay to delete records in the Folder and Files tables of the DNN database ?

Other than possibly breaking a pointer which may be linked to a FileID, would it break anything else?

On my site, the DNN URL Control's drop down list has way too many folders in it.
I would like to remove some folders at the portal root that where created by some of my installed modules.

I accidentally ran file syncrrazation at the root level which added a bunch of folders that I never need access to while managing my site.
My site worked fine without them before, but I figured I would ask before taking the risk that there maybe something else that was added to the database

Thanks,

Brad

Bat21-
I think perhaps you meant to "start new thread" rather than "reply" to existing thread.  Nice comments, though, and I agree these are very active forums with typically good suggestions / info.

Brad-
You're right on the money, there.  Removing entries from FILES and FOLDERS should not hurt anything other than file pointers (so any associated LinkClick links will no longer function).  If the files/folders you're removing haven't been referenced by your content then you should be ok.   Be aware, though, that short of restoring the database table itself from a backup you cannot otherwise restore files' previous fileid values (they'll end up with new ids and, therefore, will no longer match existing LinkClick link info).  I've had some experience with havig files and folders unexpectedly removed and having to repair (update) the broken file pointers scattered throughout other DNN modules' DB table entries.  If interested, you can read a bit more about that particular issue here:

Thanks mamlin, that is what I thought, but it's always better to confirm it with someone.
Interesting read on the blog link as well.

Thanks again,

Brad
