I'm currently using Ventrian's news articles module. But, it can't be set up to display banner advertising in the article views. Does anyone know of a module that will all us to place a banner in the article view?  I get over 150,000 pageviews a month in the news articles section of my website, but can't tie any advertising to that traffic.

I'm not a developer, so I need an off-the-shelf package.

Any suggestions?

There are a couple of ways to go about it  - My clients who have about 30,000 articles on their sites run by the ventrian news articles module - use to drop the code in when they were creating their article - I created a table for them (yes I know it's a table but it was the only way we could hold the data correctly) - and then we upgraded the template - so it's automatically in their template.

The next step we're going to do is have a third party banner manager with it's own interface - not dnn, but we can drop the code into the template and they can have rotating ads, without requiring page refresh, as well as weighted banner ads.. they are looking forward to this.

Having said that - I did see a module on snow - just a day or so which was 199.00 and it looked like quite a neat banner management tool, but like you - I wanted something I could drop into the code - and this independent banner management software allows me to put in small bits of code and manage independently.

So how about playing around with the template and seeing what you can do.

 Hi Greg,

If you are interested, we will be releasing a beta version of our new article module called digArticle.  It has banner integration in the article list (say you want a banner to appear in postiions 2, 4, and 7.  We also have banner tags built into our templates for displaying DNN banners.  You can modify the article view template and put something like <div style="float:right">[banner:artbanners:S]</div>  In that example 'artbanners' is the DNN banner group, and S means you want to get the banners from the Site vendors as opposed to the Host vendors.  Once you set it up once in the template, you don't have to touch it again, and simply manage your banners through DNN.

 It will also include many other goodies like:

  • Digg style voting on articles and comments
  • Tags
  • Categories
  • Normal or Threaded comments

Greg-

If you have the Smoke Ranch Ad Manager module you can display ad banners within Ventrian's New Article module.  Smoke Ranch gives you a token you can use to display banners wherever you want them. You just put the token in the News Article templates.

There is a thread on the Ventrian forums talking about this.
