DNN 5.0.1 NON ADMIN USER MODULE PERMISSION PROBLEMS

We have been playing with 5.0.1 & have noticed the following issues when trying to give no admins access to the "user account" & "page manager" modules:

USER ACCOUNT MODULE (MODULE EDITOR)
- CANNOT "MANNAGE USER ROLES" UNLESS YOU GIVE THEM "PAGE EDITOR RIGHTS" (GIVING A USER ONLY "MODULE EDITOR RIGHTS" DOES NOT ALLOW THEM TO "MANAGE USER ROLES") - "Either you are not currently logged in, or you do not have access to this content.".

USER ACCOUNT MODULE (MODULE EDITOR) - NON ADMIN USERS SHOULD "NOT" BE ABLE TO CHANGE "MODULE SETTINGS", "USER SETTINGS", OR "MANAGE PROFILE PROPERTIES". THESE FUNTIONS SHOULD BE LIMITED TO ADMINS & HOSTS ONLY. THIS SHOULD BE CHANGED FOR BOTH "PAGE EDITORS" & "MODULE EDITORS" PERMISSIONS.

PAGE MANAGER MODULE (MODULE EDITOR) - IF YOU GIVE A USER "MODULE EDITOR" RIGHTS TO THIS MODULE, THEY CANNOT USE THE PAGE MANAGER - "Either you are not currently logged in, or you do not have access to this content".

This should have been cleared up, see:

http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=9067&PROJID=2

http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=7728&PROJID=2

There is also an issue whereby user settings can be accessed which has portal functionality.

Anyway please log these issues at support.dotnetnuke.com

Adam did you log these in Gemini or did you find a fix?  I just looked real quick and didn't see them.  we are having the same problem.  Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.  But I give the role I want view & edit permissions on the User Account Module.  However, when I login with that role, I still cannot add/edit users.  I have to change the page settings, but I don't want these users to be able to have access to all of that.

I"m a missing something or is this a bug?  Any help would be appreciated.

Disappointingly I'm afraid there are a whole load of logic issues with edit/view permissions for a number of modules with DNN5.0.1 which makes colaborative administration difficult (so in real a real world scenario it's not much different from 4.9.3 if you are using core modules):

See:
http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=8817

I would opt for a third party module to suit your needs, and check out codeplex where some are available, make sure they are 5.0.1 compatible.

Alex - thanks for info.  We actually had one that worked fine, but when 5.0 came out I thought maybe we could get rid of it.  Oh well.

On a side note, I really appreciate all of your contributions and that of others to the forums.  I've solved many a problem over the years just by doing a little searching.

Thanks for all you do.
