Hi,

I had a portal setup with DNN 04.09.02 and AD provider 01.00.03. The AD provider setup was according the installation manual, including impersonation in the web.config and everything worked fine.
After upgrading to AD provider 01.00.05 role synchronization stopped working. AD Users are still created in DNN if  they don't exist, but corresponding DNN roles are no longer assigned to the DNN user. The admin authentication settings are correct (role sync enabled, green "OK" for the communication with the AD).
The DNN event viewer doesn't give AD related errors, only "login success",

Please advice.

Hi Theo

Try clearing your cache/cookies and trying again. I just double checked against our 4.9.2 install (just in case something changed in the core between 4.9.1 when the provider was submitted and 4.9.2) with a couple of different accounts and they're getting Added/Removed properly.

Hi, Mike,

I've cleared cache/cookies and still no luck... Even tried with a different browser to be sure the login is "clean".

Maybe it is usefull to tell you more about my setup. We have a DNN test environment where we usually test updates, modules etc. Last week I upgraded that portal to core 04.09.02 and AD provider 01.00.05. After that I noticed that the role sync was no longer working, but I didn't know exactly at which step of the upgrades the problem started.
So I created a separate DNN installation (just to pinpoint the cause) reproducing the same upgrade steps. What I did was:
- Install core 04.08.00 (the starting version last week)
- Install and configure AD provider 01.00.03
- Install dutch core language pack
- Added DNN security role corresponding with AD domain group
- Login to portal (through WindowsSignin.aspx) with a domain user that is a member of the AD domain group (a "real" member, no nesting of groups). The role sync was working: the DNN user was created and the role was assigned.
- upgrade to core 04.09.02 and delete the DNN user
- again, the same login, same user with the same results, so role sync was working at that time.
- upgrade to AD provider 01.00.05 and check the admin authentication settings. Delete the DNN user.
- same login. Now the user is created, but the role is not assigned. The user only gets the DNN standard roles.

I did not change anything on the AD domain side.

Any ideas?

Theo

I'll try to do some testing to see if I can recreate what you're seeing but your upgrade path is very similar to what I've done on our production site. I know this is goofy but could you double check that Synchronize Role is checked in the settings? Maybe even try unchecking it, updating the settings, and then rechecking it/updating.

EDIT: Just thought of something else..... what kind of groups are you trying to synchronize?  Security or Distribution?

Synchronize role is checked, tried the uncheck/update/check/update thing, but no change. Still no role sync.

The AD group is a domain local distribution group
