I recently read the Skinning Tutorial Book from Packt Publishing. Although the book is a little older, it was mentioned that the Solpartmenu is replaced by the DNNMenu which should have some advantages over the Solpart. Anyways I don't find much information on DNNMenu when (e.g.) google for it. I only find one other menu called DNNMenu on Snowcovered which is a commercial module.

So can anyone tell more about that DNNMenu and what Menu to use?

SolPart is a very old menu (released around 2002 or so, I think).  SolPart has fallen out of favor (even with its own author) for a number of reasons and was superceded by DNNMenu in DNN 4.3.  DNNMenu is actually the new version of SolPart -- DNNMenu is written by the same guy, Jon Henning, that wrote SolPart.

Unless you're needing to tweak skins whose design is heavily dependant upon SolPart rendering/styling, you should not worry with SolPart and instead focus only on DNNMenu or any of the several notable third-party DNN menu systems.  For example, IowaComputerGurus' site recently switched to using RadMenu from Telerik (possibly the most expensive of all menu options, I might add).

Regarding DNNMenu documentation, the place to start would be the nav control doc that is included with the DNN package.  I've worked with SolPart but have not yet gotten under the covers with DNNMenu so I can't say how much overlap there may be in terms of declaring menu styles and general options/configuration.
