Is there a way to disable trackbacks on a per blog entry basis? Some of my old posts  have started getting a lot of SPAM via trackbacks and irrespective of how much I delete them, they just seem to appear  randomly and at way too many places for me to manage.  (ex. http://www.subodh.com/Blog/EntryId/49/Moving-NTP-Time-Server-Role-to-new-Windows-2008-domain-controller.aspx )

I'd just like to disable trackbacks for old posts. Can I do this via the DNN Blog module itself?

Hi Subodh,

unfortunately this feature is not supported by the module. At design time, developers thought that this was needed on a blog basis, disregarding the post's "age". This means that if you enable/disable trackback features, these changes will apply to all the entries within the same blog.

However, to help people delete more rapidly unwanted comments, I have upgraded the comments UI to delete single comments with just one click. This upgrade will be available in the next version. I am also considering to provide a shortcut to delete all unapproved comments in just one go, as suggested here on Gemini.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Thanks Dario for such a quick reply. I think we would need (if possible) this as a feature request for future releases.

For now, I'll need to think how to solve this problem.

Thanks

Hi Subodh,

you still have some possibilities to make this task quick:

  1. Use an SQL script where you inner join the comments and entries tables and you delete just unapproved comments for entries older than x days;
  2. Write a small custom module to execute the logic in code;
  3. Use a custom scheduled task.
  4. Edit the module source code to ignore trackback comments on entries older than x days.

Either way it is not simple and risk proof. I think that the real solution to the problem of spam will be moving to another system for entry tracking such as pingbacks.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

wow, you really have a problem there. I just saw why you need - you can still change the entire blog to require approval before trackback right?

On a side note, how are you doing replies? Is this another module you purchased? Sorry this is my first post here although I have been following for a while
