Does anyone advise against installing ASP.NET 2.0, and then switching my ASP.NET 1.1 DNN 3.1.1 portals / IP Addresses one by one over to the 2.0 engine to see if they work right?  Do I need to do any backing up first?  Any tips for a newbie on the process I should use?  If all works in ASP 2.0, I want to try doing a 4.0.2 installation.  I also want to disable the ASP.NET 1.1 if not needed.

Any thoughts?

I don't think dotnetnuke 3 will work at all with the 2.0 framework....I could be wrong....but my understanding is that is specifically what 4.02 does.

And yes.....ALWAYS BACK STUFF UP.

I wasn't sure if ASP.NET 2.0 was backward compatible to ASP.NET 1.1 applications (like DNN 3.1.1).  And per the backup, I was wondering more if pointing ASP.NET 2.0 at a DNN 3.1.1 application would actually change the files in the application.

When installing .NetFramework 2.0, you have the option of assigning the a specific version (1.1 or 2.0) to your applications.  In theory, this should work.  Dnn 3.x should still work if you assign to it .NetFramework 1.1.

But my personnal experience tell me that different applications using different version of the .NetFramework don't coexisit well.
