I need help understanding the TimeZone settings...

My site is hosted on a server that is in the Central timezone.

My users are all in the Eastern timezone.

My portal settings has the Portal TimeZone set to Eastern timezone.

There are process that happen on my system, like online payment thru a custom module.  When a payment is made I want to store that payment based on the Eastern timezone time.  Currently, when I use the now function it returns Central time.  I then have my own function to translate it to Eastern time.

Is there a function in DNN that will use the PortalTimeZone setting to return the current time?

Am I correct to have by PortalTimeZone setting to Eastern time or should it be Central time since the server is in a Central time zone?

Time zones are not properly handled inside DotNetNuke and I hope, this will be fixed in one of the next versions.

Currently all times are retrieved using Server time and it is assumed, that portal time = Server time. Some module do shift accordingly, many don't. In general, currently  the best idea is to use GetTimeUTC() and add user's timezone ID (= offset in minutes) when displaying the value.
