Hi there,

I have DNN working correctly on a server of mine and am currently developing a Web service along side of it.  For indentification purposes I would like to login to my webservice using the users already created in my DNN installation.

I have tested my web service using the standard pre-configured authentication and it works fine, so I'm presuming that all I need to do is edit the web.config file to refer to the DNN database and membership providers?

If anyone has any information on how to achieve this I would be most appreciative as at current I'm just getting incorrect username/password errors.  Many thanks in advance!

Nick.

It's okay, I've got it now.  I copied over a load of sections from the DNN web.config file relating to membership providers.  One thing I also had to do was add a RoleManager key and set the enabled attribute to true.

sections copied...

Configuration/ConfigurationSections/SectionGroup name=dotnetnuke
... I removed all but the last 4 entries from this section for authentication, members, roles, and profiles

Database connection string, with database location modified as it is being accessed from a different folder.

Configuration/System.Web/MachineKey

Configuration/System.Web/AnonymousIdentification

Configuration/System.Web/Membership

Configuration/dotnetnuke
... Only the last 4 items retained for authentication, members, roles, and profiles

I could probably remove more than this but it seems to be working so all good...

What about your bin folder? What did you copy there? I started down the same path but I kept having type errors. I then found your post but I am still having issues. I am trying to do the same thing.

I'm also trying to do the same thing. I've copied

  • everything DNN related into my web service web.config
  • All DNN related dlls into my web service bin

still, no dice. Any suggestions from anyone?
