Dear Group,

I'm having a heck of a time figuring out what I did to cause the Blog module Visibility to change.  In Internet Explorer 7, if you view http://www.TheTownCrank.com, the main Blog module in the Content Pane always shows up minimized.  I've changed the Title of the module to include a parenthetical note to the user to click on the plus symbol to open it...but that isn't necessarily going to be obvious to the casual user.

I've got another site, http://www.NeenahPolitics.com, that has a similar layout but that doesn't have the same minimizing problem; i.e., the Blog module is always maximized.

The Page Settings - Basic Settings - Visibility radio button is set to Maximized.  I've changed it to Minimized and back again to Maximized with no effect: in IE7 the module is always minimized.

This is not a problem in any other browser: Safari, Opera, Chrome, or Firefox all show the Blog module as maximized.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve Erbach

This appears to be an intractable problem. While waiting for a response here, I've continued to try to get the blog module to be maximized by default.  I've compared all settings in every possible menu for the two blogs I listed in my original message: Edit Blog Settings, Module Options, Settings, Page Management. No luck.

The only way I can get all the blog entries to show up without having to click the maximize plus symbol is to make a change in Module Settings | Page Setings | Basic Settings | Display Container.  If I UNcheck that option, then all the blog entries show up in the Content Pane without a container.

Does that provide a clue?  Also I'm running DNN 4.8.2.

Sincerely,

Of course, when I UNcheck the Display Container option, if a user selects one of the blog entries to see More..., the text alignment changes to Center rather than the normal Left-aligned...sheesh!

So, to recap, if the Display Container option is UNchecked, all of the blog entries on my home page appear normally, except for the fact that they're output on the background color of the Content Pane.  I prefer them to appear on a white background; that's why I chose to Display the Container in the first place.

However, if the Display Container option is CHECKED, the whole blog container minimizes itself no matter what the visibility setting is.  The user has to click the overly tiny + symbol to open up the blog container every time the home page is visited and every time one of the blog entries is displayed by itself.

One more thing: if the Display Container option is UNchecked and the user clicks on one of the blog entries to view it in its entirety, the alignment of the text in the blog entry changes to centered.

While I was typing this message I thought of something: I've been using IE7 32-bit edition.  I have Windows XP x64 and the 64-bit edition of IE7 doesn't allow for as much compatibility with things like Flash.

I thought that I would log onto my site, www.TheTownCrank.com, and see what would happen if I changed the Display Container option.  So I did.  I CHECKED the Display Container option in the blog settings and the blog module displayed as it should.  I then closed the 64-bit IE7 and went back to the 32-bit version (where I'm now typing this message) and went to my blog and mirabile dictu!  Voilá! She works!  The centering problem still remains if I click on a single blog entry to see the whole thing, but that is as nothing to the Display Container problem.

OK, so all that's left is the centering issue when I want to see a single blog entry. Whew!  Any ideas?
