I upgraded from 3.1 to version 4.0.2 on Go Daddy and exeperienced problems with sending email to new users registering for the site. I added some free emails accounts to my domains and selected relay posting  as an option, with a limit of 250 a day. Learned from Go Daddy that my smtp server in DNN 4.0.2 should be

relay-hosting.secureserver.net

updated and tested successfully

Thanks for the "basic" use.  That allows my mail to go outbound now.  For some reason it's going through my personal account ID instead of who I thought it would flow through.  I want this mail to be the leader of the group and not me.  Or does it really run with the USERS email addy who is registered?  So I logged in as a different user.  Still looks like myself in the email outbound.

Anyone know about how to define it?

In DNN Host I have set up Gimp is the SMTP Username.

In GoDaddy I think I found out why!
Currently testing!!!!

In an email account set up on the right hand side is the SMTP setup.  In the user you WANT to be the SMTP outbound, you have to define here.  It's goofy where it's put up but what am i to say.  Look for this->
Note:  You are currently using a customized password for your SMTP Relay Login. To change your SMTP Username and Password, you must first set the Relays per day to 0 and click "Save Settings". Then return to this page and enter a new SMTP Username and password.

Your outgoing mail server will be "smtpout.secureserver.net". <-

Still waiting on a pending change.  So I can re-test.
Well that didn't work :(

I can't seem to change the SENDER details for outbound messages.  I am glad that messages are going out :)

I'll try to address this through GD, because I see it as their set up and not a DNN.

Any ideas?

TIA

There are two things to check for the email address it is going through.  First, is the forum.  Do you have the setting for show senders address?  If not what is the email you provide in the automated email field?  Second is through the host settings.  Go to Host > Host Settings and see what address you have set for the site.

I used relay-hosting.secureserver.net and I got one email to go through when I clicked Anonymous, but I just checked and it is back to basic, hum . . . I am going to change it back to Anon and test it.  Okay, new problem!  It works with Anon, but I know I changed it last night, and clicked Update, and this morning it is back to Basic.  I need to find a thread about this I guess!  Hope this helps!  It is really nice to communicate with others who have godaddy and are having problems too!  I'm not alone here.

Thank you all for all the information. At least now I am able to send email. I didn't know what was going on since my SMTP settings in my old dnn3 account (which were blank) were the same in 4.0.2. I used the relay.secureserver.net with Basic checked and was finally able to send out email. It's using my email address as the sender as also bemoaned in this thread but I will deal with that later. I hope we can come up with the definitive answer on this one. Maybe godaddy will and communicate that to us

I am using DOTNETNUKE 4.0.2 on Go daddy and when I set up my email I choose the option for relay serving of email. While signed in as host, using advnced settings, I configured my smtp settings to be

relay-hosting.secureserver.net

and used anonymous and it works. Once I did this I even received two emails for two test users I set up with randomly generated passwords
