G'day all.

I was hoping that someone could help me sort out an issue that has had me going in circles for a few weeks.

We use DNN for our company intranet as it is easy for us to edit pages regularly. For some of our controlled documents we can upload the files but we also have some registers that we can link to. I have tried a number of ways to link to a "live" file on the server.

Hypothetically if all the computers recognise 192.168.1.254\server as the root server folder, how do i hyperlink a file  on the server that changes regularly?

I have tried everything that I can think of....

Cheers,

Mathew

you need fix addresses for the documents, either by domain or server address. if the IP address is assigned dynamically in your intranet, use the server name instead. If you want to access the file via Internet, you need a domain address assigned to the server (usually all documents accessible from outside should be put on the web server.)

Thanks for the feedback.

Might need to clarify the problem.

First of all the ip adress of the server is fixed. I feel that ip is the best way to link where possible and should be able to interchange with server name.

Also the problem is not for forms etc but when we want to link a spreadsheet that changes daily. Cant keep uploading this each time.

I have tried the following combinations

file:\\192.168.1.254\server\file name extension

http://192.168etc

Not sure how to link to an exsternal file under the hyperlink function.

Thanks,

Mathew

Just hoping to bump this again.

Anyone know how I can best write the link in the hyperlink function to launch a local file?

Cheers,

Mathew

Matthew,

file protocol is MS propriatery and not supported in web sites. you can only point to files available through a web protocol, i.e. http, https, ftp or similar. if you want to link to files on a file server, you need to install a web of ftp server and make the directory available this way (accessible internally in your LAN only).
