Hi,

I want to confirm whether a particular website configuration is needed or not for DNN portals. "Application Pool Isolation". Is this required for every portal website within an instalation? I have heard that DNN is designed to run up to a 1000 portals on one instalation but if Application Pool Isolation is needed for each of these sites you would require a mamouth server to handle the quantity of RAM needed. My server currently has 4Gb of RAM and the virtual memory set to the maximum limits and I have less than 100 sites and we are running out of memory. My server support says it is because all of my websites are set up with Application Pool Isolation and questioned whether this was needed for running DNN.

If you can provide some insight or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Cheers,

Pat

Hi Pat,

App pool isolation is at the IIS site level and is a 'best practice' it is not a requirement.

The main reasons behind the seperate app pools is to reduce the risk of one site in a pool bringing down all the other sites in the same pool and to minimize the security risk across Applications.  This last one is a bit mute if you are running a single DNN install.

Antony
