Hi there.

I am installing a DotNetNuke Community version 4.9.2 with MS Access database but am having trouble with it. When I use a connection string like

<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\DotNetNuke.mdb;User Id=admin;Password=;********" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I get exceptions. System.ArgumentException: Keyword not supported: 'provider'.

I followed the directions provided here:
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/136/threadid/236498/scope/posts/Default.aspx

When I add the access file as local DNS db on the server I get login errors.

I have already installed the same version of DNN with MS SQL server with no problems what so ever. Just when I try to use Access, nothing works.

Are there any guidelines online in how to install DNN with Access?

Thanks.

DotNetNuke does not support MS Access any longer. The last version with support for that was DNn 2.1.2 from about 5 years ago

Ah, this contradicts what is specified on the DNN FAQ page.

There it says:

What kind of platform is recommended for DotNetNuke?

Most DotNetNuke sites run on a Windows platform using Access / SQL Server, although other options are available.

So, either Access is a possibility as database or the FAQ page is incorrect. Right?

Thanks.

The FAQ page is outdated and shall be updated soon, we apologize for this issue.

Yes, you've found some old text in the FAQ that clearly is wrong.

The good news, though, is that DNN 4.9.2 runs just fine with SQL Server Express.  That is a free download from Microsoft.
