Hi,

I have a site developed. I have added some extra keys in the web.config. these keys are nothing but the keys that define the emailid to whom to send.

I have created the install package. When i run it in the production the installation is successfull. But the key values needs to be done in web.config. Does this means a bad implementation. or adding the extra keys to web.config will affect the implementation.

Can you please explain it to me

Thanks

Typically it is recommended that you avoid building a module that requires modifications to the web.config to work properly.  However, there are times and places where this must be done.

DNN 5.x provides a great functionality allowing developers to add/edit items in the web.config during the module installation.  Otherwise, doing it in 4.x is a more involved process, and most of the time individuals rely on a manual user step to complete the action.

extra keys do not affect the installation as long as they don't overwrite existing machine settings used by DNN.

Web.config settings should always be done carefully, creating a backup first.
