Hello,

I have set up a 404 error page - Check out http://www.pokerdiy.com/missingpage.aspx

The problem is that Fiddler is reporting it returning a 302 instead of a 404 IIS code. I believe this is incorrect. I changed my CustomErrors section in the webconfig and though ASP.NET would handle the 404 return code - do I have to do something manually?

I also can't seem to get the Enhanced 404 Google Gadget to play nicely - it doesn't do anything when you search with it - has anyone got this working?

Rod - make sure you point IIS to 404.aspx on the Custom Errors tab of your site.

Thanks Tom, but this has not seemed to help? I changed the file to the new 404.aspx for the 404, 404;2 and 404;3. I selected the File option, not the URL option. It's still returning a 302. I wonder if it is something to do with Ifinity URL Master?

Try a request for www.domain.com/missing.html or another non-aspx page.  In IIS other than IIS 7 this will never hit the ASP.NET pipeline and only IIS is involved.  If this doesn't work, then it's an IIS issue.  If it does work as expected, it may be a rewriter.

I think you'll find your answer here:

Drop down to the part where it talks about Custom Error Pages and you'll see that IIS doesn't do a very good job of redirecting to a custom page.

You need to set Response.Status to make it work.
