I am losing 2 of my physical DNN test servers cause of budget cuts so I want to move at least 1 instance to virtual image on my workstation.   I was hoping I could migrate from SQL 2005 to SQL Express, and I have full backup copies.    Can I use a SQL 2005 backup and restore it to Express, and will DNN care?

Thanks in advance.

You can go from 2005 to 2005 express without any issues, AS LONG as your DB is under 4gb in size.

DNN will not care at all.

Somehow I'm in the same position.I need to create a replica of our intranet (runing on SQL 2005) in the DR site.Since that location is not ussualy used, I choosed to use SQL Express (saving the licence money :D) .

I've copied the dnn folder, I've made a backup of my DB, and moved everything on a server in DR site. I've modified the connection strings since now I'm using express, but when I check my site, it starts with install, and after this, all my content is not "migrated". I can not see it. The only page available is "Home" with no content at all.

Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

The only hurdle could be that you have to click "overwrite entire db" when restoring, as otherwise your SQLE will tell you that this backup is from another DB or machine and won't restore it.
And maybe (i had this...) you have to adopt the DB-User for this DB. On my SQL2005 the username was different then on my SQLE-Test-Enviroment. If this is the case either adopt the user in SQL or change it in the web.config!

It's a fresh SQLE install, with no other db on it. I'm using the same username and password for consistency.

Thanks
