I am using the Documents Module (03.01.06) an am having untold problems with it. In fact it's got to the point where the module is essentially useless.

I have several pages, one per business unit, each with it's own set of documents - product pamphlets, installation instructions etc. There are also pages for HR where we have leave forms, policies and procedures etc. Each business uniot has it's own sub folder and sometimes folders below them. All the documents have been uploaded to the relevant directories and then added to the various document modules.

After adding the document to the module I can click on it and it will load. However, an hour later if I go back to it the system has lost the link to the physical file. The enrty still exists in the document module, the physical file exists but the folder and filename disappear. I am beginning to think that maybe the File Synchronise task is what's to blame but I don't know whether or not that has any direct affect on the documents module.

Does anyone have any clues whatsoever?

I thought I had found the problem because the permissions for the directories were not set to VIEW for all users. It does have an rather perculiar affect but is not the real problem. One rather annoying aspect of the File Manager is that you do not appear able to recursively set the directory permissions. (Or not that I have seen) For example, if I set a directory to VIEW for ALL USERS I would like to recursively set it the same for all sub-folders.

Any suggestions?

This sounds like a known issue in your DNN installation. Please make sure, to disable FileSync job in Host :: Scheduler, instead enable "Auto Sync" option in host settings. I suggest to upgrade to latest DNN 4.9.3, where this issue has been eliminated.

Thanks for the advice.

I had already disabled the scheduler after I posted the message as it's where I believed the problem to be. Will now just monitor the situation and see if this resolves the problem.

Next step is to upgrade as I am still on 4.8.4 which is quite far behind.

great. Upgrade from 4.8.4 shouldn't be a big deal, don't forget to start with an upgrade though!
