Ok, I didn't fully read the blurb about not ready for production use.  I installed it and  problems keep popping up.  Can I go backwards to 4.9?  Do I have to do a full install of 4.9:?

I am sorry, but there is no downgrade option.

If you didn't create a backup of files and database first, you can't blame anyone besides yourself.

Actually, I did make makeups before I started.  So, I could go back to 4.6.2 and then upgrade to 4.9.  Just looking for an easier route.

My main problem with 5.0 is that logged in has host or admin,  you cannot go to the home page.  You get a 404 error,  page not found.  The 'public' aspect is working , but  it won't accept new registrations and the 'edit language' portion is blank.    When I installed it, it came up with two errors directing me to the installation log for details, but the log said the installation was successful.  Maybe I shoul try a new install?

... and checking that log is always a good idea. Sounds like a plan... start again...
