I have pages I want others to be able to edit and add modules to.  However, I do not want  them to have the ability to add any module.  Is there a way to restrict certain modules to administrator or host accounts only?

Basically I want to install Identity Switcher... but I don't want the specific page editors to be able to install it on their pages (http://identityswitcher.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=11357)

Another similar question: Is there a way to restrict modules to host account?

in DNN 4, all you can do is to make the module premium, in dnn 5 you can set permissions on module usage

the answer to your second question is no: a host user can always do everything

In DNN 4 you can install the free TRT control panel from  http://www.davebuckner.com/Default.aspx?tabid=56

This control panel will tie DNN's security roles to the module dropdown in the control panel - thereby allowing you to select which roles can see which modules in the control panel.

To clarify - in DotnetNuke 5 - here is how you can manage the "deploy" permissions of a given module:

  1. Login as admin
  2. Navigate to Admin -> Extensions page
  3. Click the pencil Icon next to a given module
  4. Configure the permissions grid to allow or deny certain roles/users deploy permissions
  5. Hit the “Update Desktop Module” link

Take care,

Ian
