I usually do menus with images and rollovers methods similar to the following site: www.fxw.org.  I'm trying to achieve the same results in a DNN Skin.  I'm starting to understand how to use the XML and CSS fields to change the effects, but I can't get a background image to show like on this site.  Is there a tolken properly that I can use to set the background for each menu item?  I tried to set the background image in the CSS file, but for me it would seem that the logical place would be the .XML file.

Has anyone done something similiar with good, reliable results?

Hope your knees get better   *sigh* I have such a boring name compared to some of these creative people!

Ok, I have a free skin for download - it's the designaway skin - (I'm currently working on some firefox issues with it but it's still available)

It uses mouseovers that get a similar affect to what you want - you basically want to have that little square on left appear and and stay there in a different colour.

That requires a little bit more work - eg, the active classes and the DesignAway skin will show you in the CSS and ascx file what's required to make them work.

There are also more issues with Firefox sometimes, particularly with the flyout sub menus, (as I'm experiencing and trying to work out at the moment on this skin)

It's fiddly but it can be done but in my opinion, I find that no matter how much I feel I can manage XML, there needs to be elements put into the code, therefore another reason I work in ascx mode, and not html mode.

Well, the menu I'm creating should be simpler because there are no submenus.  But that causes a couple of small problems.  First, I turned off the submenus by using the following in the skin.xml file:

<Setting>

   <Name>rootonly</Name>

   <Value>true</Value>

</Setting>

This worked, but now when I'm logged in to the admin or host, I can't get the submenus to appear.  Is there a way for me to turn it on just for the admin or host?

Second problem.  I updated the skin.css file to show a different background as the user hovers over the different items.  This works, but there seems to be a delay in the rollovers.  Is there an easy way to fix this? (http://www.rapnikastest.com)  You can see what I'm talking about by checking it at that temp domain location.

Last, as you will see on that menu, I have a menu item who's name is a little too long and needs to wrap to the next line.  I have a "<br>" in there to break it to the next line.  When I do this, I get improper indentations.  Is there a simple solution to this?  I tried all the different CSS properties, but none seem to work.  Right now, I'm using:

padding-left: 10px;

If I had my way, this is how I would like to code this situation.  I'm fairly new to .CSS and DNN, so maybe someone has done something similar.  I would think that I could set the background image to the image I have there now for each item.  THen, in the rollover state, I can specify the little green box that rolls over it.  Can I replace the arrow with the green image?  If so, what .CSS item to I change?

Thanks for all the help.  Sorry the post is so long.
