More confirmation of a bug...
Today I did a fresh install at a new hosting provider with 4.8. Everything worked fine in the language editor. Then I upgraded to 4.9.3 using the upgrade package. The language editor then reported the same problem with file permissions when attempting an update.

I have taken JGS' suggestion and have filed a bug report with title of "4.9.3 upgrade gives resource file permission errors"

Hopefully we will see some action on this.

It's apparently fixed in 5.x ...
You might not see action on this in 4.x as at the moment there are no plans to release any further versions.
So perhaps the real solution would be to wait until 5.1.0 is out.

I also have this issue since upgrading to V4.9.3.

But DNN don't recommend v5 for production yet so what other options do I have?
