Guys,

I have a DNN development server where i have configured the site and checked for all issues. Now i want to host the configured site.  What is the most easiest and simplest way to achive this?

- Should i backup my Dev DNN (website physical) files and DB files and put then on the production server, configure it.

- Or Install a new DNN instance on the production server and maybe import the whole portal using import portal. and then configure.

Thanks,

Mrunal

You definitely want to backup the web files and DB from your dev server and restore them on your production host.  If you take a native SQL BAK backup, it's pretty easy to restore the database, and you can really ensure the integrity of your data during the move as well.

First you should set the portal alias in your dev enviroment reflecting the url of the prod enviroment.
Then you could move the files.

This thread is explaining a lot.

Cheers

So guys if i am moving a DNN instance which has a main DNN portal (one which installed automatically when installing DNN) and a Parent Portal. Now the main portal is empty and my parent portal is suppose to be a live website. So now when i move them is it okay if my main DNN instance is not hosted web site ( means it would be on a public IP) and my parent portal will be hosted which will have a domain name. Is this possible or both of them need to have domain names.

Thanks,

Mrunal
