Hi all,

I'm having trouble with times and times zones. For example, the blog calendar on my system is out by a day and it means the highlighted days do not show posts. I have to click on the day after.

I've been looking into it and found this post that appears to deal with the issue, but I'm unsure if it is still relevant and works, or if there is now a better solution.. i.e. something built in that works correctly?

The issue appears to arise when the server is in a different time zone than the host portal. I'm unsure if that is correct, but it would certainly explain why I can never get times to display correctly in different portals. I am of course setting the individual portals and accounts to correct local times.

Any comments on the issue are appreciated.

Rob

Rob,

yes, there are still problems with timzones in DNN, because a) DNN timezones do ignore DST and b) the usertime class uses methods "convertusertoservertime" and vv methods, to convert between user and portal time. There are plans (and a concept) to replace DNN timezones by Windows TimeZones, but this requires .Net 3.5, which is planned to be required in future DNN versions. The same time, usertime class shall be replaced and any core methods, dealing with timestamps, need to be converted to store data using UTC and convert for display only. Same needs to be done in every module.

AFAIR, events module has internal setting for timezone to reduce current effects.

Thanks for the reply Sebastian,

Can someone tell me what is the correct way to set up DNN when the server is on US Central time, the portals are all generally supposed to be at Sydney time, and the users are also mostly Sydney time?

The most basic thing I'd like is for the blog calendar to show posts for the day that is clicked on - it only shows posts for the day before. I've tried making drastic changes to portal time, user time and blog category times, but it refuses to work.

Any ideas are appreciated - surely someone has a portal where the time actually works?

Here's a thought... I own the server.. .what if I changed the server time to my local time here isntead of where it is in the US? Would that give me a better starting place to work from?

According to my experience, it is preferable to have default portal time the same as server time, i.e. changing time zone of the server (not the time itself) would help.
