Please be aware, that OUTPUT caching can be done for unauthenticated users only, data caching (as specified in host settings) is done inside a module for all users (or however the key is defined).

Hi Johan,

One of the common performance pitfalls that I see with DotNetNuke websites has to do with the rendering of the menu.  Almost every menu provider I've seen is just horribly slow when compared to what the rest of the site does.

To overcome this problem, we've created PowerMenu which is an advanced, high-speed navigation control for DotNetNuke which you can view in action on our website (all of navigation is done with PowerMenu).  We plan on releasing it for free on the next version of our website which we will be pushing live when DotNetNuke Professional 5.1 is released.

Just a note, too, that the Snapsis CSS Nav Menu has menu caching as an option, too.

Basically From what you are telling me I would say that you have a number of things that you want to consider.

1.  You want to be very selective on the modules that you use.  Not all modules are built the same

2.  You want to get away from the core menu provider.  I recommend either Snapsis CSS NavMenu or Telerik's RadMenu, as they both have massive performance improvements

3. You might consider the use of PageBlaster by Snapsis as well, for even better caching implementation.

As for sites with your load, there is the AFL site (1 + million visitors a day) - http://www.afl.com.au/Default.aspx  Granted this isn't the fastest site...but that is a lot due to what it is showing.

Otherwise, I know of others, but I am not at liberty to share currently.  If you want more advice on performance feel free to drop me an e-mail as well msellers@iowacomputergurus.com
