Hi Guys,

After a lot of research i found that it is not easy moving a single portal to DNN on a production server which already has live websites hosted. So if i want to add one more website on a DNN instance from development to production, what is the best way to do it.

I know Export Portal can help in building the same structure as it was in development.  So can anyone help me out on this one.

Thanks,

Mrunal

ATM  DNN is designed portals to be edited in place on the prodiuction site. Export/Import is an option but not supported by all modules and some settings are not included as well. If you want to use it, login as Superuser ("Host"), go to Portals in Host menu, enter master portal and select create template.

Exports creates 2 files in /Portals/_default folder, which can be transferred to the target installation and a new portal be created based on it.

Hmmm, interesting. Are you suggesting that there is the posibile development going on to change this so that the option of "promoting" a portal from one site to another could become a possibility? It would be a HUGE advance for us if this was ever to be the case.

Thanks guys for replying. So is the DNN community doing something so that a portal can be moved from one server to another without any issues. Because it seems to be a big hole in this case. Because i want to follow the process of creating the whole portal on a development server first and then transfer only that portal to the production server.
