Hey, does anyone know why DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.CreatePortal() is so extremely slow?  It works very quickly for the first few portals, but by the time it reaches 100 portals, it slows down noticeably... and by the time it reaches 500, it is useless.

What is the problem?  Some loops within a loop within a loop? There must be some O(n^n) or worse code in there?  I'm just starting to look at the core code for this now to see if I can spot anything, but I'm expecting the code to be complex.

I thought I saw a thread were Sebastian said something about this, but now I cant find that thread anymore, even on google.

What is the max # of portals anyway?  I guess that demo.dotnetnuke.com has quite a lot, how do they handle the delay in creating portals?  How many do they have? I know they keep the number of portals down by automatically expiring demo portals quite quickly.

Thanks

JK

What version of DNN are you running your custom module against?

If you are using anything before 4.9.3, then whenever a portal is created, the HOST cache was cleared. See Performance issue adding portals. I'm not sure if the 5.x codebase has the same bug

Thanks a lot Oliver, much appreciated.  That seems to have done the trick.  I've tried DNN493 and generated 1000 portals in an hour, vs yesterday when it took all day to do 500.
