Hi,

Hopefully someone can advise me on the best practice for this?: I'd like to setup a simple feature (using the standard modules if possible) where I can write individual "news" articles which are then published automatically as a list of links on my homepage. I would then like to provide an RSS link to this list so that the article can be read on other sites.

I've tried the Announcement and Links modules but neither give exactly the correct result (announcements is just a big list of headings/text, "Links" is a list of URLs but I have to maintain the destination pages manually for each article) - maybe I'm using them incorrectly?

So the key things would be:

  • Publish a news article (displayed on it's own page)
  • Link to that page appears at the top of a list of links on my homepage
  • Users can easily grab an RSS URL which will display the list of news articles as links on their own site.

Perhaps I have to setup a folder for articles or use some kind of "categorization" of pages? Bit of a newbie at all this!

Hope there's an easy solution possible :) Thanks for any advice you can give.

The BLOG module is the closest you'll come with the default DNN modules.  Simply post articles as blog postings.  Use the helper modules (added to the page when you drop the blog module on a page) to provide list of articles (blog postings) and an article search feature (similar to DNN search but constrained to articles/blogs).

Alternately, you can add your own helper module if you want to customize your homepage list of artcile/blog entries.  One example is here (with working example on the site's homepage):

Forgot to mention:
BLOG also has RSS feed support plus features SEO-friendly options for integrating the article name in the URL for better search results.

Hmmm...don't suppose you know how I can control the style of the url list? Fonts are a bit large and doesn't seem to conform to the skin I applied. Are there CSS settings somewhere that I can access?

Thanks!
