Hi friends,

I just started looking at DNN yesterday. I copied all the files downloaded with the the Install package from the DNN website. I copied them into a folder and configured the folder in IIS. When I type the domain name, say www.abc.com, the page appears in the browser and allows me to add pages and do other modifications.

However, when I add new portals, I am facing a problem. I added a parent portal with the header www.xyz.com. I am not able to understand where exactly the portal is configured. I can see the entries in the DNN database. Also, a folder for the created portal is created in the 'Portals' folder with the PortalID as its name. The folder however does not contain any pages. It just contains some images and a Templates subfolder which in turn contains the default template which I selected during creation. In the guide that I was referring to, it is written that after the portal is created, I will be redirected to the default page of the portal. It did not happen in my case, however. I was redirected to the portal ie. www.xyz.com. But it gave a HTTP 404(Resource not found) as no page exists in the portal folder.

Please advise how should I go about creating new portals with a separate domain name.

I believe you have congigured the portal correctly in DNN. However, have you done so in IIS and/or has DNS been configured for the domain correctly?

you should add www.xyz.com as a host header of your dnn website in IIS or add new website that locates to the dnn folder.
