We're in the process of creating a DNN 4.0.0 site, and when we try to upload our first new skin, we have encountered two issues:

  1. When our skin developer tries to upload the zip file, he gets the following error:
  2. Error: File Upload is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Cannot access a closed file. ---> System.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a closed file. at System.IO.__Error.FileNotOpen() at System.IO.FileStream.Seek(Int64 offset, SeekOrigin origin) at System.Web.HttpRawUploadedContent.TempFile.GetBytes(Int32 offset, Int32 length, Byte[] buffer, Int32 bufferO
  3. When another developer tries to upload the file, he receives no error, but the skin appears neither in any of the dropdown lists nor in the file system.
Are we missing something? Should we do something besides browse to the file, click the add link button, and click the upload new file link button?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I'm not sure why you are getting that error, but I have experienced once or twice myself. could be as simple as file being selected or opened when file is being uploaded or accessed.. but, I wanted to tell you that if you have zipped incorrectly - eg. from folder - instead of in root directory of skin, it will not show because it's a folder in a folder..

I've got a brief overview on the skinning process that might help you in this area, but not sure about that closed file although I've seen it, it's not been one that I've been able to replicate on purpose.

Thanks for the reply, Nina.

We're kind of flying by the seat of our pants here. We're using the skin project template provided with the 4.0.0 starter kit, and we haven't been able to find any tutorials on 4.x skinning. The documentation that accompanies the 4.x packages is for previous DNN versions, so at least in some cases (module development for example) I'm not sure that it applies.  I expect that skinning in 4.x also differs from that of 3.x.

Do you or does anyone else know where I can find 4.x DNN skinning tutorials?

Thanks again!
Craig

The skinning is the same. I've installed most of my 2 & 3 skin on 4 without a problem.

There are some minor menu nuances, but you can use the same pattern for dnn3 skinning for dnn4
