We are looking to install a blog and forum on 5 to 10 child portals on our site.

How much will this slow down our site?

It is better to only use one?

We will be using a single sign on solution to access the child portals.

If the users are the same across the board, I would question why you are creating child portals.  There is duplication of some information, roles, and other user items when spanning multi portal but all users having access to all portals.

From a performance standpoint, there isn't going to be much with must multiple instances, the key is in the traffic and number of posts, and other considerations with multi portal.

Mitch,

 Thanks for the repy...

We are trying to have a user register and choose access to a child portal as a specific topic destination. An example would be a cooking website with a section dedicated to strictly barbecuing. So we want to build separate forum and a blog solely for users to discuss Barbecuing only.

I do like how this site has their blog set up with topics in different locations, all linking back to the main blog. We are running DNN 5.0 1 and the blog mod is not working properly for us, so we have not tested this layout yet. Can you split the forums up in a similar fashion? We want the user to only see the forum section assigned to their topic. The ultimate goal is to form destination pods that are topic specific and are easy for the user to find and easy for us to manage. If we can do this without a single sign on mod and child portals....we would much rather go that direction.

Any advice would be much appreciated!
