Is there any clear documentation on how to install a child portal? I keep going in circles.

1. I just need to add a new child portal in a sub-directory- this is just a sub-directory, it's not tied to any domain name

2. My root dnn installation is in www.mywebsite.com/dotnetnuke

3. I am trying to add a child portal in www.mywebsite.com/dotnetnuke/childportal

4. I keep adding the child portal in the host admin and I get a notification email saying the portal has been set up.

5. But in the notification email the portal website address is blank. What do I do next?

6. Any help would be greatly appreciated

What version of DNN are you running? Have you tried going to the child portal?

1. I am using version 4.8 and I am trying to follow the instructions here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Support/Help/tabid/787/TID/3803/cid/-1/Default.aspx

2. When I do this I get a 404 error when I click on the Create Portal Link.

3. I receive the notification email just fine.

4. But when I go the url it also give me a 404 page not found error.

5. Does it matter that my initial dnn installation is not in the root directory?

there might be an issue creating the folder, please validate, that a folder in your DNN installation directory is created with properly redirecting default.aspx. file inside.

1. I see the folder but there is no default.aspx file at all.

2. There is a sub folder called Templates and inside there is a file called Default.page.template

3. But in the root of the newly created portal folder there is no default.aspx file

4. In fact, now that I have checked I can see all the folders of previous failed attempts to create a child portal

5. And none of the folders has a default.aspx file

6. If I go to the public site and type in the full url to the child portal including the default.aspx extension it sends me to the root dnn installation

7. Any ideas?
