That's an IE error, not a DNN or IIS one.  Most common reason is that you're using the wrong IP or host name.  Turn off friendly errors in IE to see the real error.  Make sure IIS is configured to serve ASP.NET apps on the IP/Port you're using.  If you're really on IIS 6, which means 64 bit XP, make sure ASP.NET is enabled as a web service extension.

I'd like to contribute to error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"! I've been doing upgrades from 4.9.0 to 4.9.5 to 5.0.1. and finally to 5.6.0 (btw: only these steps seem to work with my modified DNN source version 4.9.0). After upgrade to step 5.0.1 this error (can not display webpage) appeared! Reason was my web.config which was customized with all those custom module and other things...What i did was replace my web.config with release.config of upgraded version and merge things from my web.config one by one to new one! I've read everything on forums and there were experts saying: do not modify web.config before upgrade, well i guess it somethimes helps to do it after (all) or before (when you havilly customize your current dnn version). Another thing that relates only to 5.6.0 upgrade is blank/empty screen after "upgrade progress". I've commented out this line in install.aspx, which caused time out: Scheduling.SchedulingProvider.Instance.Halt("Stopped by Upgrade Process")
