My company uses DNN 2.1.2 for production site, we planned to upgrade it last year, so I downloaded DNN 4.8.2, but for some reasons we didn’t really do it. We are thinking to update it this year, when I back to the DNN site, I read 4.9.4 was released today. I was wondering if it is necessary to upgrade 4.8.2 to higher version (like 4.9.x), and if yes, which version I should upgrade to. The last question is what the big difference between 5.x and 4.x.

Many Thanks for any response!

Qi

Qi,

recommended version is 4.9.4, which has all security fixes included and supports VS2008, IIS7 and all latest technology.

DNN 5 is still under development and will provide new features like delegatable admin modules, disallow permissions and basis for future enhancement, but there will be an easy upgrade path, once you updated to DNN 4.

Thank you for everyone's response! We installed DotNetNuke 2.1.2 in 2004, there are a lot of custom modules (more than one hundred). I installed 4.8.2 sucessfully last year, and also worked on it a little bit last year.
