Hello, I am new to DNN and just installed Version 5.01. Everything seems to work, but I have a few annoying usablilty questions. Could someone lend a hand?

Using the advanced editor, my text shows up in Times Roman when click edit it even though it displays as Arial.

Is there anyway to default this to Arial, for editing and viewing everything.

I would think I would need to edit some style definition to set the default, but I have no idea why the test shows as Times when it's not.

Another glich is the styles and font boxes appear to be transparent so you can't really see them. Is this a bug that has an easy fix or work around?

I have to ask this question, but where in the files is the database and password stored. I see some .config files but no web.config.

Thanks

Dustin

Which DNN version are you using?

to get a kind of WYSIWYG, enter advanced editor settings and apply "dynamic"  retrieval of editor CSS.

tranparancy of drop down lists might be caused by the skin applied. does the same happen using the default sin?

user data is provided by Microsoft Membership Component, which uses to store its data in ASPNET_membership table, passwordss encrypted.

Hello Sebastian,

Thanks for the tip, I bet it's the skin that is causing the issue. I had not considered that. You don't get much for $22 dollars these days.

I am using 05.00.01.

As far as my Text editor question, to state it more clearly:

When I add a Text/HTML box to a page and click edit in Richtext, it always defaults to Times font. What is the easiest way to change this to some other font?

When you state "to get a kind of WYSIWYG, enter advanced editor settings and apply "dynamic"  retrieval of editor CSS." could you explain what your thoughts are with this. I see a nice fancy editor. In fact it's the same editor I am edit this post with, I just don't know where to edit the default settings.

As far as the database question, to state it more clearly:

I can't find where in the dnn files is the connection string to the database. For example, I know the sever name, user name and database password. DNN must have these values stored some where. Usually these are stored in a web.config file, but I don't see one. I am sure it's pretty obvious, but I used an installer and it wrote this in some file.

Thanks for taking your time to help me.

I am really impressed with this DNN tool. I just hope I don't crash it without a backup. ;)

There will be a web.config file.  The installer may have worked on it, but it will be there.

The standard place for a connection string is the <connectionStrings> section of the web.config file.  It's usually somewhere quite close to the top of the file.

Dustin,

please be aware, that DNN 5.0.1 has not been release for production use due to a number of issues, you will be able to upgrade to DNN 5.1 though.

Richtext editor used is called FCKEditor (see www.fckeditor.net). the integrating provider allows to edit a number of settings via UI, if you are editing a page as admin user, you get displayed a link "Advanced Editor Options" beneath the editor window. this opens a settings dialog, where you can switch the editor area css (and a number of other settings). Switch to portal scope first and always alter a single setting at a time, save and apply to see the changes.

Database connection string is stored in web.config, connection string section and 2 lines below again for legacy module support.
