Using DNNv3 Does anyone know how you can create a flash intro so when you type the domainname you get the flash page, and the Home link would then go do a different page without the flash title image? We just want the flash to appear as the first thing. Obviously if the site gets bookmarked or indexed and go direct to a different page it doesn't matter.

You can do one of a few things.

  • You can use the Admin/Settings option and set a splash page in the settings there.
  • You can create a default.htm page which, by IIS will pick up before the default.aspx file
  • You can ceate a skin that has the flash file embeded in it as part of your site. (not my preferred choice)

Don't forget, with the new way IE is handling embeded objects no one will even see it most likely.

Oh yes I did hear something about this - but didn't take that into consideration since I've not actually got the full story on what the implications were.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I wonder if a flash module would assist in overcoming this - http://www.inventua.com have one.

actually it's not that bad an impact - i've been running ie6 with the advance patch for a few weeks now to determine the effects, and webpages still display as before. It's interaction with the object that doesn't happen automatically i.e. if you visit a page with a flash movie, it will display and run as before, however if that movie has buttons (say "play" & "stop"), when you hover over the movie a tooltip will popup saying "click to activate and use this control". The first mouse click activates the control (i.e. what happened automatically before), the second would interact with it. The main issue will be users reporting that they have to click "play" twice for the movie to work, whereas one click in really activation. The same effect mainfests in java applets e.g. i have some applets with scrolling links, you have to click twice to follow the link.

If you don't have objects that you interact with, then theres no noticable effect (except that if a user hovers over the object, the tooltip popsup, and a thin border may briefly appear to highlight which object it refers to)
