A number of modules give you option of viewing some item details in a new page. The DNN Events module does this, Xmod does this, it seems a fairly common scenario, to be able to choose to open details in a new page, rather than load them inline.

In our main DNN install, running 4.9.4, users are prompted to login whenever they try to click on one of these links. If I configure the events module or Xmod for example to load details inline (AJAX reloads the page with the specific content section updated) it displays fine, but when I choose the "event details in new page" or in Xmod turn off the "display details inline" option... users are prompted to login to see details. When you're logged in you can see these details fine... but this shouldn't be required!

I've set up a new DNN 4.9.4 install to test with, and it doesn't require login! I'm so puzzled... there must be something in my DNN core that's confused/broken. I'm desperate for help.

If you aren't able to reproduce the behavior on your new DNN instance, I would compare the page and module permissions between your new and main site.

I've done that, checked over these things a number of times. I think it's a corruption in a DLL somewhere, because the settings are identical, I've installed the same modules, set permissions, etc.
