When you use sites like e-bay and Craigs list, they have certain identity protection features in their messaging that I don’t understand why the DotNetNuke community  hasn’t embraced yet. I mean, this seems like a no brainer in these days of security awareness.

For example:

If I want to setup an auction or classifieds site, there are several modules out there to do this. But here is the specific issue I’m running into:

1.       When members, potential buyers and sellers want to send e-mail communications to each other, they don’t want the other party to know their e-mail address.

2.       These members should be able to send e-mail communications, notifications, questions etc. to each other using the application’s forms, but never worry about the other guy knowing their actual e-mail address.

3.       When a member sends a message, the other party receives it by e-mail. If they want to respond, they log into the system to respond, and then the other party can login if they want to reply.

Is there any modules out there that has these considerations for messaging?

Thanks,

Frank

Private Messaging mods have been around for a long time. The 2 I know of (and have used) are Ventrian PM and Active Social Messages. I have always used the former on PokerDIY (for the very reason's you mention - Emails are never exposed) but I am switching to Active Social as they are working on an API so I can channel all my module comms through the PM module (and it can decide if an external email is sent - ie. for event invites, group invites, league results etc.)
