you should avoid to modify core files like default.aspx and try to put custom code in your skin files.

Does it mean that I should use the default.aspx file that the upgrade process copied to the the root of the DNN installation.?
The newly coppied default.aspx file by the upgrade process contains scripts. These scripts only parse the URL..

I just deleted the newly coppied default.aspx file by the upgrade process and coppied back the orignal default.aspx file to the root directory and every thing was working fine.
