I have been studying the various modules to create database forms for insert, update, delete, and display of data.  There is a lot of info out there on the internet, but I am not finding much in the DotNetNuke forums about it.  I've looked at the sites for Indoogrid, Xmod and H20.

Can anyone supply some comparison information based on experience.  One of my criteria is that I want the option to use forms to just collect parameters and pass them to stored procedures for all operations if I want to.  Xmod mentions on their site that you can do this.  Indoogrid mentions on theirs that you 'don't have to write SQL stored procedures', but I would still like to have that option.

Any input, pros and cons of each product would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Enterprise forms is what I would suggest for data management. it has a workflow engine which is customizable on a form by form basis. At each workflow step you can execute stored procedures on the same DNN database, a separate SQL database, an oracle database ... It will save data to tables that it creates based on the form elements, but you can also pass any of the form element values as parameter to stored procedures during any or all of the work flow steps.

My votes are for Indoo and xMod Pro ...

It pretty much depends on what you are looking to build as many of the modules have their specialties. Here is my opinion:

If you have a decent amount of developing knowledge and can do things without much documentation then the most powerful forms/web app framework module  is Open Web Studio. This is not a good choice for someone looking to learn though. Big plus is it's free.

Next best choice with great documentation and support would be Xmod Pro.

If you need strong work flow abilities Enterprise forms is the best choice.

If you are building an online testing app Dynamic forms is a good choice.

If you just want mainly display abilities with some light add/edit/delete sqlgridselectedview is a good low cost module.

Indoogrid is also a popular forms module but OWS and XmodPro both have better licensing terms.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the input. I looked at Enterprise forms and it is very impressive, but I don't think it will work for my existing databases and current .asp applications I want to replace.  Although you can create forms for existing tables and run stored procedures, that is not what it was really designed to do, and their support forum states this is not optimal.  It wants to create it's own new data stores for each form you create.  I understand this is necessary for it's workflow and versioning capabilities.  I may still consider it for some future projects that need workflow capability.

I still am not finding anything indicating running stored procedures with IndooGrid.  I think I am going to give the Open Web Studio a try and do a little more research on Xmod Pro.

Thanks again.
